How to get here
Several bus lines and tour guides travel directly from the Gold Coast and Brisbane: Crisps, Fillippo's, Granite Belt Winery Tours, Thrify, Choice Tours and Maxi Tours. Small plane flights occur privately - you will need to contact your local aerodrome to organise these - we have our own aerodrome just near Applethorpe.
Best time to go
Any time, but March to September are the cooler months. The secret around here is that when the Christmas swelter hits everywhere else in Queensland, the Granite Belt locals stay put and enjoy reinvigorating cool summer nights. A great place to bring the family for the school holidays.
What do I bring?
Always bring a jacket - it gets cool here - even through summer the nights can be icy! Bring a willingness to pull up and soak in the country atmosphere i.e. slower pace, country banter and friendlier "natives". An empty stomach is a MUST as most of the local restaurants don't believe in "gourmet" servings - the food usually is served as big, hearty or huge. (Ask any backpacker - if you pick fruit on the Granite Belt - your appetite will just grow.) A cork screw is ideal for those nights you want to stay in and try your latest purchase after touring the wineries - and a fishing rod isn't a bad idea either. |

Turn the mobile off, drive to the end of an old familiar road, switch off the radio, wind down the windows, breathe in the fresh air and listen… to the birds, the breeze and the peaceful stillness…
You’ve made it. You’ve escaped.
Take a deep breath and relax… no work, no demands… just the wide open country and you.
Now, do whatever you want to do - watch the dramatic pink sunset, wrap up in the cosiest blanket, walk through a glorious garden, meet us down in the vineyard, read a good, long book
and remember what life is all about… You, the air that you breathe and good times.
Welcome to Stanthorpe. |
