Backets of Vegetables > Eating Out on the Granite Belt
Experience the Granite Belt’s unique relationship with food… of growing fruit and vegetables and serving them up for meals. Read on the following pages to see the unique foods provided in the area, not to mention the heart friendly beefalo red meat available - unique to the Granite Belt.

The fresh produce of the Granite Belt is an integral part of its lifestyle and is an important influence on food served in the many cafés, restaurants and gourmet outlets.

Locally grown produce is prepared with little processing. There is an abundant use of fresh fruits and vegetables. Wine is served with meals in moderate amounts, and there is an abundance of the nutrients that we associate with heart health: fiber, antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals.

Family and community ties are quite strong. People come together for unhurried meals and work hard. This isn’t to say that life is easy here, just that priorities and demands are different. Current research indicates that exercise, stress reduction, and strong social support are of benefit in reducing heart disease risks. The Granite Belt Lifestyle combines all these elements and probably contributes significantly to our health in this region.
